In recent months, Ortega’s normally abrasive political rhetoric has given way to public praises for God. When the clouds parted prior to a Sandinista march on June 25 after a day of heavy rains, Ortega credited the changing weather to divine intervention. “How it must pain [the opposition] to see us in the plaza after the rain had stopped, thanks to God!” Ortega said. “If this wasn’t God, who else?”
